Listening for the Curtain

Today I listen for the curtain of the temple being torn in two from top to bottom.  The curtain that shielded the Most Holy Place from view.  The curtain that separated mankind from knowing and relating to our Heavenly Father personally.  The curtain that only the High Priest could enter through to offer a sacrifice for our sins.  (Hebrews 9:1-14)

I meditate on the sound while feeling the earth shake and seeing the rocks split apart. I imagine God the Father reaching out his arms to me, calling me, and telling me, “It is Finished! (John 19:30)“  The Blood of Christ has been offered, unblemished and perfect, as the final sacrifice!

“And when Jesus had cried out again  in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.  At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  The earth shook and the rocks split.” Matthew 27:50-52

No longer do I live in the painful cycle of trying and trying harder as a slave to my sin working to earn God’s affection.  No longer do I live with a guilty conscience that weighs me down and prevents me from seeing God’s goodness and love for me.  No longer do I go through the High Priest to be rectified with my Heavenly Father.  And no longer do I live in fear of death.

I am in awe that my Creator wants to know me, wants to talk to me, and cares about every detail of my life enough to come to earth, sacrifice His Son, and pay the ransom for my sin to free me forever so that I can be with Him forever.

Today I hear the curtain tearing, and I listen in awe as I run to Him.  Thank you, Jesus.
