The weeks long campaign that I’ve been a part of speaking truth into Fifty Shades of Grey and promoting Pulling Back the Shades is coming to an end today as the movie is released. I know most people, maybe even you, are tired of the bombardment. I even saw this post today on Facebook:
I could say a lot about this post and the comments people made comparing the Fifty Shades of Grey posts to the yoga-pants ban post (Did you catch that one?) and the infinite number of anti-immunization posts. But at this point there’s no point.
We all have to stand for something.
My something may not be your something, and praise God for that, because if my something and your something and everyone else something’s were identical there would be a lot of unmet needs in this world.
Personally, this is my litmus test for what to stand for or stand up for or speak out about:
Is this an eternal issue?
Only human souls are going into eternity. So will this issue keep human souls from knowing, believing, and experiencing God’s everlasting, personal love now and in eternity?
Abortion is an eternal issue. Marriage is an eternal issue. Sex-trafficking is an eternal issue. Homosexuality is an eternal issue. Abuse is an eternal issue. Raising children is an eternal issue. Pornography is an eternal issue. Sex is an eternal issue. Slavery is an eternal issue.
The list goes on.
I don’t stand up for all of these issues in a public forum because I don’t feel called to do so. But I have and will stand up for lies the enemy is using to steal, kill, and destroy God’s daughters because I am one of those daughters, I have my own daughter, and I want women to experience freedom from these lies.
A Lot of Prayer
Conviction is good. Conviction is what brings us back to Jesus. Today I’m praying for conviction. Conviction for myself, that God will open my eyes to see areas of my life that are not pure and holy, and conviction for the women who will see the movie and read the book Fifty Shades of Grey.
This is not because I want to see women experience guilt or pain. It’s because I know that without conviction and repentance we cannot know God the way He intends for us to know Him. And knowing God is the only way anyone will ever experience true joy and satisfaction.
Read Luke 18:9-14 for a great conviction story!
